Elon. Oh, big boy Elon.
What is there to say? He’s a Nazi. That was a Nazi salute. We all saw. Then, he video linked into a campaign event for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. The AfD is a suspected extremist organization for white supremacists. Elon told the crowd of Germans that “children should not be guilty of the sins of their parents, let alone their great-grandparents.” He did this two days before Holocaust Remembrance Day. The fuck.
This is not the first time Elon has flirted with the far right. He’s been playing footsie with them for a while now. He bought Twitter and used it to amplify far-right messages. And, lest we not forget, Elon is the son of a South African politician and businessman. So, you know.
If you want a great deep dive into Elon, we recommend Behind the Bastards. We will let Robert Evans do the ugly heavy lifting on that one and instead go straight into the question, is Elon committing a coup?
Yes, Elon is committing a coup.
There is no way to describe what is happening in Washington, DC. Well, okay, there is. There is whatever the NYT and CNN are covering in whatever alternative universe they are living in. But everyone else seems to see this for what it is.
That’s a coup.
Elon Musk, a man who has not been elected to office and has not gone through any nomination process, controls the Treasury Department. Elon has sensitive information about millions of Americans at his fingertips. Elon has access to your social security number. He also disappeared from USAID, an organization with only a $40 billion budget. $40 billion! That is less than a percentage point of the federal government. It’s nothing, except, you know, life-saving food and medicine for the people who rely on it.
Also, USAID apparently announced months ago that they were investigating Starlink over a contract it had with them in the Ukraine. And USAID did help dismantle apartheid in South Africa.
So here we are, with a white South African with far-right fanboys and no accountability running about the GSA and Treasury. This motley crew has no security clearances, no clear understanding of how the government works, and some are too young to shave regularly. They plan to take over all of the computer systems in the federal government.
Is this a Coup?
Yes, it’s a Coup.
This is a Coup.
